Minocycline is a second-generation tetracycline with high lipid solubility, enabling excellent tissue penetrationβincluding skin, lungs, and CNS. It exerts bacteriostatic activity by inhibiting protein synthesis at the 30S ribosomal subunit.
Minocycline is a highly lipophilic tetracycline that traverses bacterial membranes and binds reversibly to the 30S ribosomal subunit near the A site. It blocks aminoacyl-tRNA docking and halts elongation of the peptide chain, leading to inhibition of protein synthesis.
