Penicillin VK targets bacterial cell wall construction through PBP binding, leading to bactericidal activity.
Penicillin VK is a beta-lactam antibiotic that stops bacteria from building strong cell walls. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and blocks the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, weakening the wall until the bacteria burst under normal pressure. Human cells don’t have cell walls, which is why penicillins are selectively toxic to bacteria.
